About ColonyGuessr
ColonyGuessr is a daily game about the history of colonization. Each day you get a region and one question: who has colonized here? Military conquest, settler colonialism, chartered-company rule, protectorates, economic hegemony — the machinery varied, the extraction didn't.
ColonyGuessr is satire aimed at colonialism, not at the colonized. Events are simplified for the format — follow the sources for the full history.
Methodology
- Every answer in the game is a documented colonization event with at least one published source, shown in the end-of-game recap.
- “Colonized” is used broadly and each answer is labeled with its mechanism (occupation, company rule, annexation, …).
- Dates are simplified to start/end years; contested or ongoing situations are flagged rather than smoothed over.
- The humor lives in the game's chrome. The history itself is told straight.
